Typically, Permanent Residency is granted within six to twelve months, counted from the date on which all required documents have been submitted. Until then, you will hold In-Process Resident status, which entitles you to a Uruguayan National Identification Card (“Cédula de Identidad”) from the outset.

This status allows you to remain in Uruguay without any time limitation. Once the residency is formally approved, you will be issued a definitive version of the identification card.
